The recent approval of the Vineyard Wind Project, which upon completion would be the first major offshore wind farm project in the United States, represents a significant step in the development of the offshore renewable energy industry in the United States. In light of the current regulatory environment and the Biden administration’s focus on renewable energy infrastructure, there is reason to be optimistic that Vineyard Wind may be the first of several large scale projects built in the in the coming years. The development of this areas of the offshore industry also presents significant opportunities for the maritime sector, however compliance with the United States Jones Act and other regulatory regimes continues to cause some uncertainty as to exactly how that maritime sector will develop.
